I got my membranes stripped for the second time on thursday, June 21st.....with my girls, it started things going after the second time, so I was hopeful:) We came home and scrubbed the house down, and then went to the mall and walked around for about 3 hours. I was having contractions that were more painful, but nothing consistent. We had dinner at a friends house that evening, and I could tell my contractions were getting harder, but nothing close enough to time, so I decided maybe I would start watching the clock that night when we got home.
I started noticing that they were getting closer together, so I started timing about 10 or 11 pm. They were 10 min apart, some 15...... so I got the laundry clean and folded and then decided that I should try to get some kind of sleep if this was going to happen tonight. I laid down, but each contraction would wake me up. So I got a good half hour of sleep from 1 to 1:30, and then they started to get closer together. About 2 am, they were about 6 min apart, then at 3 am, they were 5 min apart. So I decided it was time to call my dad. While waiting for him to arrive at this early morning hour, they became 3 min apart, and I could no longer talk or do anything while having them.....Just trying to breathe and roll on my exercise ball....they were getting painful! By the time we got to the hospital, about 4, they were like 1.5 min apart and sooooooo painful. They checked me, I was 5 cm dialated, things were moving along. As they got me set up and as I waited for my epidural, they were still only 1-2 minutes apart and so painful. My whole body would shake like I had the shivers during a contraction and I felt like I was going to vomit, there was just not enough down time inbetween them to relax the tention away and prepare for the next, I was moaning and groaning, and can now tell you that I would be a screamer if I did it natural, because I was getting louder and louder with each contraction! Now at a 6, I finally got my epidural. If I ever contemplated not getting an epidural, I can now say that its just not for me. This is the farthest I've gone with out one and I was at my threshold of pain tolerance! Sooooo grateful for an epidural!!!!! The anesthesiologist was quick and accurate and it worked wonderfully!!!!! I love that they now give you a little button that you can push to get more pain meds, or leave it where it is so you can feel when to push. This way, I felt like I was not overly medicated and could still feel a tingle in my legs and could move my toes and feet, but enough to not feel the pain.
Well, shortly after I got my epidural, I was at a 7 and my water broke! So glad I had my epidural by that time.....ouch! Then about 8-8:30, I was a 10 and they started to prep for pushing!!! I didn't even need pitocin this time, and my water broke on its own, and we cut labor in half from the last time:) (Taya was 36 hrs, Sienna was 18, and Emmett was about 9.)
Emmett came out pretty fast too!!!! His head was facing up, so the doctor had to reach in and try to turn him face down. He came out a little sideways and got a littel bruising on his nose. One contraction, head was crowning, next one head was out, by the next his right shoulder, .......then his left shoulder got stuck behind my pelvis, so the nurses quickly hauled my legs up to behind my ears and bent me in half to straighten out my back bones, and his shoulder popped right out!!!!!! (this quick pop is was torn me a little bit, a level 2, had to get some stitches. First time for that for me- its been the hardest part of recovery, but glad to say its getting much better).
Emmett was born 8:56 am, Friday, June 22nd, 2012.
Coming in at 9lbs, 12 oz and 20.5 inches long.
I still can't believe how big he was!!!! When he came out, all the nurses were giddy about how chubby he was:) My girls were only in the 7 lb range........so this was a big surprise! But so glad he is here, and healthy and out of me!!!!! We can't get enough of him:)
Because he was so big, he had some low blood sugar levels and had to get an IV, and lots of pricks to test his blod sugar level. But by the end of the day, they were balanced out and he was good :)
